Aeriosense was recently in beautiful Nelson BC working with the local utility to help integrate drones into their transmission line inspection program.
In October, Aeriosense team conducted a pilot project inspecting a section of a transmission line running over some remote and rugged terrain. The utility customer was looking for a more cost-effective and faster means to conduct thorough inspections of their facilities compared to their current inspection methods of using foot patrol and helicopters. The electric utility partnered with Aeriosense to determine how the automated drone inspection could fit into their routine inspection program as an alternative to conventional methods.
The pilot project was successful in highlighting advantages of the inspection and allowed the utility to compare the findings to those obtained from conventional inspections in order to develop a strategy how this new approach will fit into the existing program.
